Czech Business Data Research

Czechia runs on more than a million active businesses, from Mladá Boleslav automotive suppliers to Brno software houses. The legal record lives in the court-run Obchodní rejstřík, while sole traders are listed separately in the živnostenský rejstřík — two registers that together map a classic Central European industrial economy.

Official register sources

The legal source of truth for Czechia is Obchodní rejstřík. It records every legally trading company — identifier, status, address and often officers and filings — which is why it is the most complete and current starting point for prospecting. See the full register directory.

Where the popular databases fall short

Stored databases such as Apollo and ZoomInfo are built from three sources — shared user contacts, bought lists and web scraping — each tilted toward companies with a visible, English-language web presence. A small automotive supplier near Brno is in the Obchodní rejstřík and on its Czech-language site, but thin in a US-built warehouse.

Small (10–49)~4%Variable — partial

Czech businesses — overwhelmingly micro-firms and sole traders — are likely under-represented in online-footprint databases. A structure-based estimate, not a figure measured from any database.

Company data in Czechia: registers & coverage

The authoritative record is the Obchodní rejstřík, kept by the regional courts under the Ministry of Justice and searchable for free at or.justice.cz; certified extracts carry a small fee. Every entity is keyed by an eight-digit IČO (the VAT number simply prefixes it as DIČ “CZ…”), and the Ministry of Finance’s ARES service aggregates the same records. Sole traders and the self-employed (živnostníci / OSVČ) sit in a parallel Trade Licensing Register, the živnostenský rejstřík at rzp.gov.cz, rather than the commercial register.

That split is exactly where aggregators like Apollo and ZoomInfo thin out. The overwhelming majority of Czech firms are micro-enterprises and sole traders trading only in Czech — a machine-shop supplier near Ostrava or a family workshop in South Moravia keeps a Czech-language site and an IČO, but little of the English web footprint those databases harvest. Courts post new filings within a few business days, so the official register also moves faster than any bought list refreshes.
