Every business in Uruguay first obtains a RUT (Registro Único Tributario) from the tax authority, the Dirección General Impositiva (DGI), and then registers with the Registro Nacional de Comercio, the commercial section run by the Dirección General de Registros under the Ministry of Education and Culture. Employers also enrol with the social-security body BPS (Banco de Previsión Social). There is no single free open-data dump of the whole register the way Northern Europe offers; company standing is confirmed by request to the public registry using the RUT and company name.
Uruguay is a small, concentrated economy of roughly three and a half million people, so its company base is modest in absolute terms and heavily centred on Montevideo. Agribusiness — beef, dairy, soy and forestry-pulp — sits alongside logistics, finance and a fast-growing software and shared-services sector. Because most domestic firms operate in Spanish and many are small or family-owned, US-built aggregators such as Apollo and ZoomInfo, which prioritise larger English-facing markets, cover Uruguay thinly. AtlasForgeX instead reads the live Spanish-language sources directly.
