Swedish Business Data Research

Sweden has around 1.2 million companies, the overwhelming majority of them micro-firms, and offers some of the cleanest open company data in the world through Bolagsverket and Statistics Sweden (SCB). AtlasForgeX reads those registers and the Swedish-language web to surface firms the global databases miss.

Official register sources

The legal source of truth for Sweden is Bolagsverket. It records every legally trading company — identifier, status, address and often officers and filings — which is why it is the most complete and current starting point for prospecting. See the full register directory.

Where the popular databases fall short

Stored databases such as Apollo and ZoomInfo are built from three sources — shared user contacts, bought lists and web scraping — each tilted toward companies with a visible, English-language web presence. A one-person consultancy in Umeå with a Swedish-only site is in Bolagsverket but not in Apollo — accessibility is not the same as having been collected.

Swedish companies — almost entirely micro and Swedish-language firms — are likely under-represented in online-footprint databases despite excellent open data. A structure-based estimate, not a figure measured from any database.

Company data in Sweden: registers & coverage

Bolagsverket, the Swedish Companies Registration Office, is the registration authority, and every entity carries a 10-digit organisationsnummer (formatted NNNNNN-NNNN). Limited companies — aktiebolag, abbreviated AB — require a minimum share capital, lowered to SEK 25,000 in 2020, while many of the smallest businesses trade as enskild firma sole traders tied to the owner's personal identity number. Statistics Sweden (SCB) keeps the statistical business register, and Bolagsverket releases bulk open data at the start of each month covering identifier, status, registered address, officers and filings.

Despite that transparency, coverage in commercial databases is uneven. With roughly 96% of companies in the micro band of under ten employees, a one-person consultancy in Umeå or a forestry contractor in Norrland may run a Swedish-only website — or none at all — and never enter a US-built warehouse. Apollo and ZoomInfo skew toward firms with an English-language web footprint and contributed contacts, so activity outside Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö is thinly represented. Atlas pulls from Bolagsverket and SCB directly and watches the Swedish web for signals, reaching the firms a stored list leaves out.
