Jordan runs a centralised registrar: the Companies Control Department (CCD), an independent body under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply since 2003. It registers limited-liability, private and public shareholding companies, partnerships and foreign branches, and assigns each a registration number that the Income and Sales Tax Department and other agencies reuse as the primary identifier. The catch for outside data vendors is language: the CCD’s searchable e-services run almost entirely in Arabic, with only partial English on the public site.
The economy itself is distinctive. Amman concentrates a fast-growing ICT and startup scene, while Jordan punches well above its size in generic pharmaceuticals — Hikma was founded here — alongside Dead Sea potash and phosphate mining, QIZ garment exporters and tourism around Petra and Aqaba.
